Chapter 3 Pulled Ham String

Tuesday March 24th

Of course today was washday. I also needed to get the boat organized and cleaned for the kids visit.  Jack and George cleaned the ICW mustache off of Celebration.  They also started to wax her.

Wednesday March 25th

Jack and George are really in a boat project mood.  I am not sure if it was because they were trying to get the boat ready to put on the market or because they wanted to reward themselves with a beer when they finished.  I was still trying to organize the boat and put everything in it’s place.  The last minute crossing caught me off guard.

Thursday March 26

We decided to take Celebration out for a day sail.  The winds and weather was perfect.

We were docking the boat when George called out for me to get the fender in.  Of course I ran from the port side to the starboard side to get the fender.  When I turned to cross the bow I missed stepped.  I felt something pull from the back of my knee to the middle of my gluteus.  Rey saw me grab myself and he told me to slow down.  He did not have to tell me, I was afraid to move.  I could put my weight on that leg but could not lift it to take a step.  George jumped off the boat and ran across the street to a masseuse we knew from years passed.  She sent an ice pack and two ace bandages and told me to rest my leg.  I was in pain but only when I tried to move my leg.  I went below and got off my leg. The rest of the day I iced and kept my leg wrapped.  I was more upset because I had hurt myself just 9 days before the kids were to come.  I knew we would be walking a lot.  That night I could not get into the V berth so I slept on the settee.

Friday March 27

My leg was not any better.  George was worried that I had done some serious damage to my leg and would need to fly home.  I just wanted to know if I should walk on it or not. That night I was kind of worried about my leg so George talked me into going to the doctor the next day.  George and Jack continue to do boat projects.  It seems the less I can do the more they think they have to do.  They polished stainless today.

Saturday March 28th

One week from when to kids came in and I could barely walk.  We took a taxi to the doctor’s office.  I loved this doctor, Dr. Maxwell.  She said everything I wanted to hear.  I had badly strained my muscle but I had good strong muscles so it should heal well.  I asked if it would hurt to walk on it, she said,” It would be fine and it needed to be stretched.” She said only time would help it heal.  Her scales also weighted me ten pounds lighter.  I am telling you, I loved this doctor!!  I went home and iced it, stretched it and then I put heat on it.  Stretching really hurt but I did it anyway.  I walked as much as could stand the pain.  Lynda, Jack’s wife was flying over Wednesday.  I hoped to be better by then.  George and Jack keep checking off boat projects.

Sunday March 29th
We took a taxi to church.  We returned to the New Vision Missions.   When we got to church we saw our old friend Don.   If your have been reading my blog in years passed he is a very interesting chap.  After church he asked if he could give us a ride home.  We accepted but of course Jack and George had to ride in the back of his pickup truck.  We asked him to stay for lunch and he did.  We always enjoy talking to Don.  In December of this year he was working on his new house and fell off the roof.  He broke his back.  His friends were not sure he was going to make it. After hearing about what he had gone through, I felt bad that I was complaining about my leg.  He gave me inspiration to have faith that my leg would heal soon.

Monday March 30th

I was counting the days until the kids would be here.  I was a little sad today because every step I made was painful.  Jack and George were doing some of the cooking.  My leg did not hurt if I just stood on it.  It hurt only when I bent over or when I took a step.  The doctor had wanted to give me pain medication but I was afraid of taking medication and over working my leg.  I felt bad because George and Jack were getting do much done, so I sewed on the bimini  where it had come unstitched.

Tuesday March 31st
This morning was hard. My leg was a little better but not near what I had hoped.  Lynda was coming tomorrow.  I really wanted to be better when she arrived.  Today I walked to Iggy Biggy and as a reward I bought a pillow.  I walked 2,000 steps but it still hurt to walk.  Jack is getting ready for Lynda’s arrival.

Wednesday April 1st
I woke up with a lot less pain today.  Maybe my prayers were being answered.
Lynda got here today and It was great to have her here.  We plan to go sail the boat to Guana Cay tomorrow.

Thursday April 2nd
Jack, Lynda, George and I sailed the boat to Guana Cay and went to Nippers.  I walked with much less pain today. I should have been cleaning the boat for the kids but I played instead.  I am now counting the hours until my family arrives in the Bahamas.  My heart if full!!  Jack, Lynda, George and I went to Wally’s for dinner.  This is the nicest restaurant in town. We had a beautiful view of the sunset.  The best meal I have had in the Bahamans.

Friday April 3rd
Today my leg was almost without pain.  I can’t believe how much better it feels.  It hurts when I walk to fast or when I move it different ways.  It is unbelievable how much better it was from just two or three days ago.  The kids arrive tomorrow and I am almost pain free.  My prayers have been answered!  I am so excited to see my family tomorrow!!!  We walked to the bar at Harborview Marina.

Courtney and Jill will be writing the blog next week.
